Implementing an internal sustainability strategy and communication plan for BVZ Holding AG

In the face of global and national challenges posed by climate change, not only individuals but also companies bear a significant responsibility for protecting our living and working environments. Sustainability is closely linked to preserving nature, using resources mindfully, working in a climate-conscious manner, taking social responsibility, and promoting biodiversity.
BVZ Holding AG – the parent company of Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, Gornegrat Bahn, and the Glacier Express – is committed to positioning itself as a sustainable and responsible enterprise. Through a comprehensive process, the company has developed a sustainability strategy that is first and foremost intended to be implemented and embraced internally.
Kontx was asked to translate the sustainability strategy into a communication approach and corresponding internal communication measures, with the aim of informing, engaging, and involving employees in the challenging journey toward sustainable transformation.
Together with BVZ, Kontx initiated a creative process that led to the development and implementation of an internal emblem and accompanying slogan, serving as a unifying symbol for the entire BVZ Holding. The goal? To make employees feel like a central part of the transformation, where each individual’s ideas and commitment are essential to successfully driving the company’s shift toward greater sustainability.
Kick-Off event with strong dramaturgy for engaging everyone
As part of a sustainability kick-off event, Kontx was responsible for shaping the dramaturgy and developing the storyline for the presentation of the strategy. Employees were informed and engaged in a direct, approachable, and down-to-earth way. The storyline was crafted with clear and compelling messages that align with the sustainability agenda. In addition to long-term sustainability goals, the strategy also includes quick wins that lead to visible results in a short time. This approach aims to show everyone within the company that gradual changes are taking place in their environment at BVZ, encouraging and motivating them to stay engaged in the transformation.
Internal sustainability communication that creates excitement
To bring the topic of sustainability to the teams, Kontx initiated a comprehensive online and offline communication strategy. This included the development of energy-saving tips and fun facts aligned with the quick wins. These elements are designed with a unique and engaging visual language and intentionally carry the signet as a recognizable feature.
The tips and fun facts were created by Kontx in the form of table tents and posters, which were displayed in key locations across the sites. Additionally, they were shared on the digital employee platform in the intranet.
The intranet is not only intended to provide the teams with sustainability tips and facts. It also serves as a knowledge and inspiration platform. To this end, Kontx created an extensive list of information on conferences, seminars, and interesting podcasts and websites related to sustainability.
